This cute little poser decided to show me her nose on this afternoon’s ferry ride to Hong Kong Island. Isn’t she just adorable?

“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.”
Remembering this song from my childhood always helps me when I meet new people.
These are some of the people I’ve been working with. They’re warm, friendly, and very nice. I hope to get to know them better. Besides, making new friends is never a bad idea.

20/365 : Lamma Night (first try), originally uploaded by Snap Happy Ria.
I wanted to photograph Lamma Island at night. So armed with my camera, I whipped around the island trying to find a shot that showed Lamma’s vibrant night life. Satisfied with my photo loot, I headed home and uploaded the photos. I went through them, each one crappier than the next. Until I saw this guy.
Thank you, Unnamed Stranger in Pink.
This photo may not say “vibrant” but it sure as hell says “quirky”

My new friend, Yvonne, finally agreed to have her picture taken. She’s getting married in two weeks, she has to get used to it!
She and I are volunteers at Enrich, a non-profit group that gives financial literacy and communications training for low income human beings. We worked on our website today and she was kind enough to invite me to her (serviced) flat.

7/365 : Lantern Love, originally uploaded by Snap Happy Ria.
Today Hong Kongers lighted lanterns and ate mooncake to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. To take part in the festivities, Jason (my husband) and I went to the lantern carnival in Causeway Bay. As we walked around, I saw this couple taking a photo of themselves. I was a bit concerned as the lighting wasn’t so good, but when it came out, I was pretty pleased.
… ok time to eat more mooncake.

This is a photo I took of my husband at his airsoft-wargames outing with his friends. He thought it would be a good idea for me to meet other Filipinos in Hong Kong so I tagged along and ended up as the “unofficial embedded press person.” I had to wear a protective mask though coz there were BB pellets flying all over the place. Talk about being caught in the crossfire! It sure is hard to be a photojournalist!

3/365 : Hula Hoop Mama, originally uploaded by Snap Happy Ria.
I chanced upon this lady by the local Thai restaurant gyrating with this hula-hoop. Judging by the sound of her shortness-of-breath counting and the small crowd that was gathered she was probably doing this long before I saw her.
I learned a valuable lesson today: “Always take time to set-up your shot” I stood near her for like 2 seconds and pressed my shutter. I didn’t even check my camera settings. What I did was pretty bad photography if you ask me. Not only did I not set-up my shot, I only took one photo. I had to post-process my a** off to come out with something half-decent as the original was just so bad. However, I decided to use this photo to remind myself always to be thoughtful of what I am doing. Photography or otherwise.
