Upon its completion in 1973, Jardine House was the first and tallest office building in Hong Kong until 1980. Having unique circular windows, Jardine is one of the city’s most cherished landmarks.

P.S. This is one of Jason’s favorite buildings in HK.
P.P.S. I wonder how many circular windows does Jardine have?

22: Fishing Boats

I totally could not decide what photo to post today. I guess this is good enough. Anyway, these are fishing boats that are often found near the Yung Shue Wan Ferry Pier in Lamma Island. Lamma is primarily a fishing village but some of the locals take advantage of the tourist trade by selling goods and operating restaurants.

Did you know that Chow Yun Fat’s family operates a seafood resto in Lamma? He was born and raised in Lamma Island, by the way. A little bit of trivia there.

20: Lamma Night (first try)

20/365 : Lamma Night (first try), originally uploaded by Snap Happy Ria.

I wanted to photograph Lamma Island at night. So armed with my camera, I whipped around the island trying to find a shot that showed Lamma’s vibrant night life. Satisfied with my photo loot, I headed home and uploaded the photos. I went through them, each one crappier than the next. Until I saw this guy.

Thank you, Unnamed Stranger in Pink.

This photo may not say “vibrant” but it sure as hell says “quirky”

19: Familiarity

Whenever the day draws to a close and I still have not found my photo-of-the-day, I would start rummaging through the house looking for something, anything, I could photograph. And today was one of those days. I was so caught up with this layout project I was doing that I totally forgot about the time. I looked outside and it was dark. I groaned, kicked myself in the head, and groaned again.

Anyway, this is the part where I talk about the photo and try to come up with some silly story as to why I think this is “Hong Kongy” enough for the collection. So here goes…Well, these snacks one of my favorites. Jason used to buy some for me when we lived in Manila. I would eat them with coffee, before lunch, after lunch, and at midnight (TRUE!). I was quite amazed that they sold these here in HK! Talk about global trade!

Ok that’s enough bullsh*tting for one night. But the story above is totally true.

18: Love HK

All together now: “I HEART HK!” Let’s give this mosaic at Yau Ma Tei some love!

There’s a whole row of these, about 20 if I remember, in some back alley from the Yau Ma Tei MTR station leading to Dundas Street. I chose this coz it had “Love HK”. Don’t you just feel the love?

P.S. I don’t remember ever seeing dolphins in Victoria Harbour though. I guess the mosaic artist had a little too much happy juice. :-)

17: Left in the Rain

To me, nothing seems sadder than a bicycle left in the rain. I have no idea why. It just looks so lonely and unhappy. Poor sad bike. Neglected, forgotten.

The gloomy weather is getting to me. Where art thou, o Sun?
